My priorities come from lived experience — not talking points. As a former LVUSD teacher and current LVUSD parent, I've seen this district from every angle.

• Curriculum - My goal is to continue to ensure our teachers and students have access to a diverse curriculum that is practical and engaging for students to promote a love of learning.  Curriculum should have clear goals that are aligned with standards and measurable outcomes, so teachers are able to continue helping students grow. It should also be adaptable in the face of our everchanging world, so that it continues to be relevant as we graduate the next generation into the world. 

• Technology - Technology has been and continues to be one of the hottest topics in education.  It’s so important that our students learn to be good stewards of technology. In order to do this it is my belief that kids need to understand the great power and responsibility that comes with technology, but must also have a strong basis for independent thought and how to work collaboratively with their peers.  In order for technology to work as a benefit, students must have strong critical thinking skills and a strong educational foundation.  

• Safety - When I taught in Los Angeles I was in school teaching when an altercation resulting in a shooting happened just outside of the school. At the time we were put on lockdown with no information and I hid my 26 students in a large closet with myself as the barrier between the students and the door wondering if I would be able to protect the children should someone come in… wondering if I would ever see my family again… wondering if it would be the last day of our lives.  Fortunately, there was never a risk to the school or the students and the lockdown was safely lifted, but that experience has continued to live with me.  I am so proud of the work LVUSD has done to protect and keep our schools safe and will work to continue this legacy.  This includes safety measures from a facilities perspective, protocols perspective, as well as mental health awareness, positive school culture, etc.  When the community works together, our schools are safer for everyone. 

• Budget - I will work to listen to what school sites and teachers need to be successful in the classroom and work cohesively with the district, teachers and staff to continue the longstanding tradition of trust and value of positive relationships. This includes helping our district thrive by working in committee to constantly ensure we are using our funds in the most responsible and relevant ways to best serve our students and support our educators.
